The young nobleman Calisto becomes infatuated with Melibea, the daughter of a wealthy merchant. Calisto’s servant Sempronio proposes they enlist the help of the sorceress Celestina to advance their romance. However, Calisto’s other servant Parmeno is wary of Celestina, as he is aware of her deceptive ways. After Celestina persuades Melibea of Calisto’s affection and organizes a secret meeting between them, Calisto gifts Celestina a valuable gold chain. Both servants are displeased with the prostitutes provided by Celestina and demand more from her, triggering a series of dramatic events.
